Kayu & Shannon – August 17, 2008

The story of Kayu and Shannon begins a little something like this….Kayu and I had know each other for roughly three and a half years before we started dating.  I can’t even say I had the slightest bit of interest in him when we first met at the University of Michigan.  But I guess with time and some perseverance from our friends, Kayu and I began to have a fondness for one another.  As stubborn as we both were, neither of us would admit to it.  It took a night of dancing at s’keepers for us to let our emotions run wild and for us to finally kiss.  Very soon after we began dating.  The fact that Kayu lasted four months with me was quite the achievement.  You see, I am a very difficult person and I will be the first to admit it.

Kayu and I attended a wedding last summer of some dear friends of ours.  We partied all night long and by the time we had crawled into bed, I realized that I was starving.  Kayu offered to run out and get me some food.  As I was cozy in bed, Kayu drove to IHOP at 3AM in the morning just to get me some breakfast.  At that point, I think it had dawned on my that Kayu was “the one.”  Kayu has always been there to take care of my little needs.  He is so selfless, and I know he will be there for me anytime I need him.  He is going to make an amazing husband and I can’t wait to grow old with him.

Kayu and I will be getting married at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor.  We will then celebrate the rest on the evening at the University of Michigan League Ballroom.  We are trying to create a garden vintage feel on wedding day. I grew up as an Air Force brat, so many of our friends will be traveling from all over the country to celebrate our special day with us.  We would like nothing more than truly enjoy our special day with family and friends free from stress.

Angie & Steve – April 4, 2009

My name is Angie and my fiancé’s name is Steve. We have been dating for 5.5 years and are getting married on April 4th, 2009. Steve and I met at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, 200 miles away from our home towns, where we only lived 20 minutes away from each other yet never met! We lived in the same dorm and played on our intramural softball team together. Our friendship grew into much more! We fell completely in love and here we are today!

The first moment that I knew Steve was the one, was in the middle of a bone chilling winter up at Ferris, when I managed to get my car stuck in ice. The ice had grown around my tires and was completely wedged into the ground. My parents were up for a visit and my dad seen the problem and knew we had to get it out. As my mom and I watched on, I saw my dad and Steve work together laying on the snow, pushing, pulling, using salt, dirt, wooden boards and trying to think of any ideas on how to get my car out. I remember thinking I have never felt so loved, this was different than my parents love. Someone was out there working so hard in the FREEZING cold for ME. Needless to say I had the biggest smile on my face that day, not only did I have my car back after weeks, I knew in my heart Steve was the one.

The plans for our wedding include, getting married at the same church in Troy that my parents got married at! Our pastor who is marrying us is the son of the pastor that married my parents. I love all the sentimental value the ceremony will hold. Our reception is going to be held at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. We really wanted a reception with water in the background in honor of Steve Grandpa who passed away last summer, that loved the water and boating. Our colors are blue/brown. We will be having blue hydrangeas with curly willow centerpieces, a combination of short and tall. We are having a cupcake tower, with poured chocolate cupcakes with a mini cake to cut on top. We plan to DIY our invites and programs! We still have some details to figure out but we are very excited!

Last but not least, the picture I am attaching (It was hard to pick one!) is from our engagement on December, 9th 2007. I can look at this picture and it sill gives me chills. Steve was taking our self portrait picture at the zoo, we go there every winter and take pictures in the same spot. Little did I know he had my engagement ring behind me. There’s actually about 4 or 5 pictures with the ring behind me, even though I looked at each picture after he took them, I was concentrating on trying to fix my hair or tilting my head differently in each picture, that I never saw that box! So Steve decided to open the box, I heard something but he still snapped the picture. Right after he took the picture I asked what that was and what he had behind his back, that’s when he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him! I was shocked and just started bawling! It was amazing!

Matt and Megan – May 29,2009

We believe that timing is everything when it comes to love and our story is a good example of that. Matt and I met in September 2007 on Match.com. I would say that after the first date I knew there was something different about him. I called my mom right away and proceeded to tell her how excited and scared I was. Scared was the word I had used because I had never quite felt the way I did after meeting someone for the first time. She had replied “just go with it!” And I did.

Much to our surprise, before we met our lives closely mirrored one another.  We grew up in town’s right next to each other; Matt being from Coldwater and me being from Quincy.  We both attended Western Michigan University during the same time frame.  Both took jobs in Kalamazoo after we graduated, had gym memberships to the same athletic club, and lived about 2 miles away from each other.  As we all know it’s a big world, but a small one at the same time.  Had we both not tried the “online dating” our paths may have stayed similar but may have never crossed.  About ten months, two dogs, and lots of laughter later we are engaged and happier than ever!
